Left Atrial Appendage Closure Device

The novel Watchman FLX device features a reduced height for adaptation to shallow and complex LAA anatomies. 

Compared with the previous generation of Watchman devices, a closed distal device end renders the device less traumatic and capable of full recapture and repositioning. 

The novel design allows deployment to be performed by unsheathing, forward pushing, or a combination, thereby securing a better apposition of the device in the LAA. The number of hooks has increased from 10 to 18 and has been redistributed into 2 rows. The hooks are now J-shaped to minimize trauma to the appendage wall. Similarly, frame struts have increased to improve adaptation to the LAA anatomy, and the polyethylene terephthalate fabric coverage was extended to provide better sealing properties. 

Finally, the delivery cable screw hub has been recessed, resulting in less metal exposure intended to reduce the risk of device-related thrombosis (DRT).
